How recommendations work
40% similarity threshold
A user qualifies when more than 40% of that user's saved videos are also present in your library.
We find videos you do not have
Videos from those similar users are considered only when they are not already in your own library.
A varied queue is cached
Up to 200 recommendations are generated at a time. New candidates are preferred over videos from your previous recommendation batch, then results are randomized with a relevance weight.
The expensive similarity query runs only when you explicitly generate or refresh the recommendation list. Opening the page never rebuilds an old cache automatically, even after 24 hours. Refresh is limited to once per hour. Normal scrolling and autoplay read the cached list in batches of 25 without rebuilding it.
